High anxiety is no laughing matter

High anxiety is no laughing matter

High anxiety is an emotional/psychological disorder characterized by excessive fear and apprehension. If left untreated, it may cause severe health problems and difficulties in handling personal and professional relationships. While it is considered a serious disorder, medical treatment is now available. The use of bupropion, an antidepressant, is now helping thousands of high anxiety patients to get rid of depression, worry and other emotional disturbances.

A 1977 film by film-maker Mel Brooks entitled, High Anxiety takes a comedic look at the mental health industry and the various approaches taken to treat anxiety disorder. The movie was given two Golden Globe nominations even if it did not do too well at the box office. Brooks, known throughout Hollywood as a comedic genius, deliberately made this movie as a spook of the more-serious psychological thrillers made by Alfred Hitchcock.

While it is true that laughter is the best medicine, high anxiety is certainly no laughing matter. In real life,
High anxiety can lead to panic attacks, phobia and other disturbing behavior associated with excessive nervousness or fear. It is an unpleasant feeling that is often accompanied by palpitations, chest pain, nausea, and headaches.

But what exactly is the cause of anxiety? According to medical experts, a re-setting of an organ in the brain called amygdala. Amygdala is an ancient Greek word for almond. The amygdala, shaped like an almond, is found inside the medial temporal lobes of the brain. As part of the limbic system, it performs a role in the processing of emotional reactions and memory. This organ is connected to several brain centers such as the visual cortex and the neocortex. In recent laboratory research, people who were made to view depressing images or films showed changes in their glucose metabolism. After watching horrible scenes such as a plane crash or predatory scenes in animals, men were found to have had increased glucose metabolism on the right side of the amygdala. Women, on the other hand, developed increased metabolism on the left side of the said organ.

If left uncontrolled, emotional disorders can cause major health problems, suffer poor performance at work or in school, and even cause damage to their professional and personal relationships. To avoid a total mental, emotional and physical breakdown, people suffering from emotional disorders should consult a doctor or a therapist. Often, after a careful interview and evaluation, the doctor would prescribe
anti anxiety medication. The drugs are given to help relieve the symptoms of anxiety. These prescription pills work to block the neurotransmitters that are known to influence cases of depression. It is very important to control depression because, as medical histories have shown, it is one of the most common causes of relationship problems, health degradation, and even in the rise of suicidal thoughts among depressed individuals.

One of the more effective prescriptions today is bupropion, an antidepressant and a substance used to control excessive smoking. Clinical studies involving the introduction of multi-placebo samples showed that the use of bupropion is effective for the treatment of depression. The said substance is said to be the fourth most prescribed antidepressant in America today, grossing over 21 million prescriptions since it was released in the market.      First developed in 1966, bupropion was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in 1984 for medical and therapeutic use.
Today, bupropion is marketed under the brand name Wellbutrin, which is strictly a prescription drug that comes in slow release and extended release variants. If taken without doctor supervision, the drug may cause seizures. It is also not recommended for patients below 18 years old. But under the care of a doctor or a health professional, the of use of this drug can be the fastest way to remove the symptoms of excessive fear and apprehension.

Anyone can have high blood pressure. It doesn't matter your age, race, ethnicity or gender. Many people suffer from high blood pressure and have a higher risk of strokes and heart diseases than those with regular blood pressure.

What is high blood pressure?

High blood pressure is the force of blood against the walls of your arteries. Your blood pressure is always rising and falling throughout the day and if it rises and stays that way over time, you have high blood pressure.

High blood pressure is usually referred to as hypertension. When you have high blood pressure it puts more pressure on the heart, making it work harder than usual. This is why you end up at risk for strokes or heart disease.

What is the normal blood pressure level?

The normal blood pressure level is less than 120 over 80 or less. The first number is your systolic pressure and the second number is your diastolic pressure. Your numbers are read 120 over 80, etc. If your pressure is 140 over 90 or higher you have high blood pressure.

What is systolic blood pressure? This is the force of blood in your arteries when your heart is beating.

What is diastolic blood pressure? This is the force of blood in your arteries when your heart is relaxing.

What are the risk factors of high blood pressure?

The most common risks of high blood pressure are stroke and heart disease. There are a few other risk factors that can be modified and some that cannot be. The following are some risks:

  • Tobacco

  • Physical Inactivity

  • Diabetes

  • Abnormal Cholesterol

  • Being overweight

Who can get high blood pressure?

Unfortunately anyone can get high blood pressure but it is more common among African Americans. Nearly one in three American adults has high blood pressure. African Americans also have a much higher death rate from kidney disease and stroke than white Americans. Even so, with treatment you can help lower your blood pressure.

How can I lower my blood pressure?

Fortunately there are many different ways of helping to lower your blood pressure. Exercise is a great way to lower it. Doing physical activity will make your heart stronger over time. If you have a stronger heart it can pump blood easier lessening your risks of stroke and kidney diseases. It is never too late to start exercising!

If you are concerned about your blood pressure consult your physician. Ask any and all questions you might have and find the best way for you to lower it. If all regular ways fail, consider medication. Talk with your doctor about your health and lifestyle so he can choose the best medicine for you. If you want to live a healthy life, taking control of your blood pressure is very important.

High school graduation

High School Graduation

High school graduation may seem very far off when a student is a freshman, but in no time at all the big day seems to show up. It is a time that the students really enjoy as all of the limelight is on them. They will soon get to put their school years here behind them and go out into the big work. It is often a time when parents start to realize that their child is becoming an adult. High school graduation can also be scary if you havent really decided what your next step will be.

Most high school graduations take place in late may or early June. If you have many schools in the area you should look into reserving halls, rentals of accessories, and even music early if you want to host your own party. You may want to make the high school graduation party a collaborative effort to help with the cost. This is also effective as the students will want to spend time together that night as well.

Most schools have many activities leading up to the high school graduation including prom. There may be dinners and special events to recognize the students. In order to make the graduation go smoothly there are plenty of rehearsals. This is a time for the students to learn what will take place. They find out how they will proceed into the area, the order to go up and get their diplomas, and what will take place during the ceremony.

The graduation ceremony may be very large as some schools have thousands of students. I also know of graduations that have been for a handful of students so they are more intimate. In addition to their being a keynote speaker, the top students of the class will give them a farewell speech to take with them as they head out for new horizons.

Those that have won scholarships to various colleges will have that recognized as well. There are likely to be plenty of happy smiles at any high school graduation. At the same time there are plenty of sad tears that come from both the students and their families. It is an emotional time that you will always want to remember so make sure to take plenty of pictures.

Hypertension can wreck havoc on many body organs. Its effects on the heart are especially damaging. High blood pressure and heart disease are closely connected.

Moderate to high blood pressure significantly increases the load on the left side of the heart. Arterioles are often diseased or constricted, which increases resistance to blood flow. When this happens, the heart has to work much more to pump blood into the arterial system including the aorta.

When any muscle is overused, it tends to increase in size and bulk. The heart muscles react the same way. An enlarged heart is a sign of trouble.

Heart enlargement can be detected in several ways. A chest x-ray can reveal it. So can an electrocardiogram or even a physical examination.

In many high blood pressure patients, the walls of the left ventricle thicken. This increases the workload on the heart. Eventually, the heart falters and the left side of the heart no longer pumps bloo
